Apatite

Apatite

"The stone of learning, with a characteristic reflection of fibrous inclusions along all crystal axes. It is believed to encourage extroversion and promote sociability."

The name of the stone was given by geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1786 and derives from the Greek word "apato" (to deceive), as it was often mistaken for other minerals such as calcite, quartz, beryl, dioptase, and others.

Apatite is believed to support inspiration and is considered a stone of learning. It enhances knowledge, psychic abilities, and deepens meditation. It helps reduce sorrow and anger. It has a positive effect on social interactions, dispels negativity, and encourages extroversion. It balances the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies, as well as the chakras. Specifically, blue apatite opens the throat chakra, making it easier to speak in public.

It belongs to the phosphate mineral group and the hexagonal crystal system. It is found in semi-transparent form and in various colors such as green, yellow, blue, violet, and white. It often displays the optical phenomenon of asterism. Major sources of apatite include Mexico, Norway, Russia, and the USA. In Greece, apatite is found on the islands of Syros and Sifnos as a main component of glaucophane rocks, as well as on Santorini in small cavities of the Santorinite rock, together with magnetite, hematite, and cerussite.
